Robert Weingarten, 6:30 am
Robert Weingarten photographed the same landscape, the southeast view over the Santa Monica Bay, everyday for one year at 6:30 am. All exposures were made with the lens focused on infinity and at the same aperture of f/22. The shutter speed of the lens was adjusted each day depending on the quality and quantity of light available. The outcome of such rigid rules for a photo series resulted in an incredible contrast of nature’s most vivid hues and muted tones.
I was hesitant to check out this book because the concept sounds like an amateur photographer’s idea for a class assignment, but the photos are really spectacular. Weingarten’s idea is simple and the rules are rigid, but the results are beautiful and the range of color is very surprising.
